Oh, The Places We Go!

Our final flight into Rome was delayed two hours. We thought that getting in late would help us sleep later in the morning, but unfortunately we still were awake by 4:30am. I dozed from about 6-8, and then we got breakfast and headed out for our first morning in Rome!

We are quite relaxed travelers. We love to see as much as possible, but we don't like to overdo it either. For our first morning we went to Santa Maria Maggiore Basilica, which is right by our hotel. It's a beautifully built church, but it was surprising to us how many similarities we felt between it and a Buddhist temple. Replace Buddha statues with gold shrines and different architectural styles and it's pretty similar. It feels so dark to be in a place of worship when the Truth of Christ is not there.

From there we went on to the Colosseum. Wow. For the magnitude of this structure and the amount of tools (or lack of machines) it's very impressive that it was built in just 8 years. We'll let the pictures do the talking.
