Temples in Chiang Mai

We have read that Chiang Mai boasts of more than 200 temples in the city and surrounding areas. We spent one day wandering into nearly every single one we passed and it filled our day very quickly. I'm not sure we even made it to more than 10 of them. It was interesting to see so many differences between Buddhist temples in Thailand and the ones we have grown accustomed to in South Korea. Below are pictures of several different temples that we happened upon. One of them I wasn't allowed to go inside because my knee-length dress was "too short."

Huge fish fighting over cupcakes...video coming soon...

These lily pads were HUGE! The biggest one was probably about 6 feet across!

Buddhist monks out for a stroll...barefoot

Tsk tsk...

Hmm....true, but correct grammar is also valued.

Ahh roundabouts- Megan's favorite

Megan wasn't allowed in here because of her "short" knee-length dress

This monument is over 600 years old!

If you look closely you can see Megan at the base of the tree- shows how big it is!

At first glance we thought this was a real monk sitting perfectly still inside a glass case...but upon careful observation we found it to be a creepily accurate wax figure.
